BULGARIAN GAMES

Гърнета
Gurneta
Pots

You know what a pot is?! Well, if you’ve forgotten- we’ll remember it together through a game... Kids pair off- one is the pot the other is its owner. There is a lone child- purchaser.
The pots kneel in a circle and behind them stand the owners. The client goes behind them and when he/she is attracted by a pot he/she stops in front:
- Granny, what are you cooking in this pot?
- Honey and butter.
- Granny, are you selling the pot?
- I’m selling it; I’m putting it in pawn, but not giving to you.
So says the Granny pretending it‘s not a usual but a magic pot as if you can use to cook whatever you wish in it. So the Granny starts running around the pots, and the client runs in the opposite direction competing to reach first the magic pot and become an owner of the pot.
And the client? He/she goes around again looking for a pot to buy. The game goes on as long as the kids want.
CAPITAIN, CAPITAIN
The game is played from 3 to 15 children. One player is blindfolded and another child it rotates three times, then the children are ten steps away from the child blindfolded, the number of votes from 1 to 10. After this "Blind grandmother" started looking for other players. They have the right to issue sounds! When a child is taken "blind grandmother must know what it is! Once you know it they way it blind man's buff!
Застари, баба
/ игра за момичета/

Zastari, baba
/A game for girls/
Ageing woman (a game for girls).

Anyone who plays ‘drop the handkerchief’ can play this game. But the name of our game is a bit odd- you’ll see why. Spring or summer time the game is outdoors but in winter- near the cosy hearth. Kids sit in a big circle on the grass or on a big rug. One of them takes a handkerchief and walks behind them trying to drop the hanky unnoticed. When the kid walks again behind the one with the dropped hanky, she takes it and rubs the ‘ageing woman’s ears’ and says:
- Ageing woman, ageing woman!
That’s how the name of the game comes because the girl behind whom the hanky was dropped seems to have dosed and didn’t notice anything. Just as our grannies- as if looking after the grandchildren, as if knitting but all of a sudden they dose for a while.
But if the girl behind whom the hanky was dropped, then she snatches it and runs after the other girl. When she catches her, she says ‘ageing woman’ and rubs her ears. If she can’t catch her she starts walking behind the circle and the game starts again.
